$5 Membership
“I guess $50 is a little bit steep. I did not even realize I paid it, I guess my club just put it on my bill or something.” Brent (last name withheld by request)
“I am one of those who joins the APTA, but no longer plays tournaments and is not in a league which provides the $25 membership. Thus your logic was fascinating to read. Obviously the APTA couldn't operate on $5 memberships, but you gave us an interesting perspective.” Gail Moskow
“Sadly, each issue of the magazine has become a retread of the year prior’s issue. Just change the year on the cover and it’s the same stories season after season. I am not sure if the magazine can be called a benefit of membership any longer. Thankfully, I don’t pay for it. Someone at my club leaves it in the paddle hut.” JoJo Stephens
“Tell the cheap SOB's to pay the full price.” Tony Brown
Websites
“Thanks for the list. Just wanted to let you know that the Essex Paddle Tennis Club in Essex, CT, has a website, and we even put together an online quiz that we hope members find both informative and slightly humorous. You can view it here: http://www.essexpaddle.com/” Chris Kilbourne
“I agree the sport should be growing! However, if you look at most of the platform courts around the country, they are ALL (or most all) "PRIVATE COUNTRY CLUBS" or just private clubs where you cannot come off the street and get a court to play. You must be a member in order to play. The game will not grow, unless there are courts open to the public. (Just my opinion).” Jim McGovern, APTA, PPTA Cape Cod
What Game Do We Play
“Liked your article on this! I have a friend in Atlanta who attended the Peachtree PADDLE clinic about a month ago. When he got home he called me on Long Island and asked "What is the difference between paddle tennis & platform tennis?" I explained that those of us in the East have changed the name of our sport and that it is like golfers calling a bunker a sand trap!! Yes, we should call our sport by its real name, platform. Paddle tennis is played in the West and in Spain but not at Scarsdale!!” Winnie Hatch
ACE, DEUCE, FAULT - Premier Cup
“The APTA should be ashamed of itself. The last two issues of the magazine offered more coverage to an eight-team men’s only tournament than they did to all the senior men’s and women’s national championships combined last year.” T. Russell
ACE, DEUCE, FAULT - Correction
The exhibition at the Cherokee Town and Country Club in Atlanta on November 1 was presented by the APTA not the PPTA.
