ACE – USTA to add platform tennis courts to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York. With luck, the PPTA and APTA can hold Platform Palooza at the US Open in 2009.

DEUCE – Coverage of the Premier Cup. The tournament is unique in concept for platform tennis with invitations initially limited to the top eight men’s teams, but nonetheless it is still only eight teams. Is this tournament worthy of two past Platform Tennis Magazine covers, current “front page” APTA website calendar placement, and yet another “it’s coming” half page article in the current PTM? For getting coverage like the aforementioned, kudos to the Premier Cup’s promotional director.

DEUCE – Premier Cup. The tournament is in its fourth year and is finally listed as an APTA sanctioned tournament in the APTA annual tournament list. While the original concept was that the tournament be open to the top eight men’s teams, it has yet to have more than six of the top eight actually participate. Is it time for the APTA Men’s Ranking Committee to consider offering “bonus” points to those teams that participate in an effort to encourage better participation?

FAULT PlatformTennisNews.com. Too much coverage by PTN.com of the Premier Cup. It is only eight teams after all.

ACE– Tournament directors. In reviewing the new APTA tournament schedule, it seems to have a lot of new players giving back to the sport and running events. Many thanks to the tournament directors for your hard work and dedication to the sport.

DEUCE – APTA Website. Wonderful regional news headline “Three Events Share a Larger Purpose”. Sadly no article about how these events support October being “Breast Cancer Awareness” month only tournament dates are provided. A great opportunity missed.

ACE– New courts. Does it get any better than this for our wonderful sport? New courts in New Jersey, Chicago, Cincinnati, Atlanta, and North Carolina.

ACE – Decision by the APTA board to once again make the organization’s finances public. While there is a requirement of all 501(C)(3) organizations to make financial statements available upon request, according to Mark Fischl, president of the APTA, the APTA will be proactive in publishing their financials in NetNews coming out soon.
