AD OUT– Platform Tennis Magazine was late. Every Region had a tournament scheduled before members received the first issue of the new season with the APTA Tournaments 2007-2008 printed. DEUCE– President Mark Fischl’s column in the magazine made me wonder how he found time to deal with the responsibilities to his position with the APTA as he traveled around with his son’s commitment to the sport of fencing. The redeeming feature is that I know he loves our sport. AD OUT– Platform Tennis Museum and Hall of Fame Foundation bids “farewell” to Scarsdale, NY as its site. The Fox Meadow Tennis Club’s Board of Directors twice rejected the Foundation’s plans and also because there has been a lack of progress with the Village of Scarsdale for a location in Brite Park. It has made consideration of a location in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, the front-runner. AD IN– “Lob Thoughts” by Adam Boyce in Issue 1 emphasizes the importance of not losing points by lobbing wide or long. It is an excellent reminder to avoid a basic error. AD OUT– “Material Deadline for PTM Volume 9 Issue 2 is October 21, 2007” (printed twice pages 8 & 12) is a late notification, as magazine was not received until after that date. AD IN– Bob Callaway’s report on the Rules at the Annual Meeting as printed in the magazine states, “No motions were made in favor of changing either the let cord (on serve) rule or for a lob that bounces out of the court”. Hooray from this corner. There is no reason to make changes.
